                                                         Private Boot Camps

Medicus of Houston regularly produces boot camps that are privately contracted for members of a particular group or organization - whether physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants or paramedics. While we recommend that the classes be limited to our usual size (10 participants) we can (and occasionally do) create special boot camps and seminars for much larger groups.

There are two ways to go about presenting a private conference:

1. The group contracting with Medicus of Houston can provide the venue and any catering, or

2. Medicus of Houston can provide the venue and catering (usually a light breakfast and lunch with coffee and tea service throughout the day). For boot camps and seminars presented in the Westin Galleria, we typically provide a continental breakfast only since there are so many convenient opportunities for dining within the Galleria Mall.

Frequently Asked Questions

What types of boot camps and seminars can you present?

First, we can present any of our regularly scheduled boot camps - the Advanced ECG Interpretation Boot Camp and the Advanced Dysrhythmia Boot Camp are always available for presentation. We can also customize seminars and boot camps that last anywhere from one to five days (8 am to 5 pm). While we do not teach electrocardiography at the beginners’ level in any of our scheduled classes, we can present privately-contracted boot camps and seminars that address the basics of electrocardiography.

Will we receive AMA PRA Category 1 Credit, CEUs or AANP credits?

First, Medicus of Houston does not offer CEUs for nurses. Whether you will be able to receive the other credits depends on several factors. You will receive full credit (CME and AANP) for the Advanced ECG Interpretation Boot Camp and the Advanced Dysrhythmia Boot Camp when presented as a private program. For custom, private presentations it will depend on the number of attendees and how many days the presentation will last. We will also need time to arrange continuing education credits with our co-sponsors - the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) and the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP). Some contracting organizations, however, already have authorization by the ACCME to assign continuing education credits and have provided their own continuing education credits for some of the presentations.

Can Medicus of Houston present private boot camps and seminars outside of Houston, Texas?

Absolutely! We can travel to other states and even other countries (Europe, Asia, Middle East, South America). We have presented boot camps in San Antonio, New Orleans and Toronto. We will also be presenting boot camps in Budapest, Hungary in 2016! Travel expenses will be in addition to the tuition cost.

What does a private boot camp or seminar cost?

Mostly that will depend on the type of presentation, how long it will last, how many people will be attending, where it will be held, who provides the venue and any catering. However, in general, a private boot camp for 10 participants held here in our teaching facility in Houston, Texas and limited to either the Advanced ECG Interpretation Boot Camp and/or the Advanced Dysrhythmia Boot Camp will cost $1449/person for the Advanced ECG Interpretation Boot Camp and $1049/person for the Advanced Dysrhythmia Boot Camp. Any catering provided by Medicus of Houston will be extra. The tuition includes full CME and AANP credit.

There aren’t ten physicians in our group that can be away at the same time. Are there any exceptions or “work-arounds?”

A class of ten participants is our absolute minimum - but there is a work-around! You needn’t limit the participants to only those in your own group. You can reach out to others in other medical groups. And don’t necessarily focus on your own specialty: an internal medicine hospitalist group could combine with an emergency medicine group or even some nurse practitioners or physician assistants.

Is there anything that one should understand before contracting for a private boot camp or seminar?

Definitely! We only contract for “full” seminars. That means if you have contracted for ten people to attend but three drop out, there is no refund for those three. You can certainly add three more people - even from outside your organization - but the contract will be based on the number of participants originally agreed upon - even if fewer participants actually attend.

How can we learn more?

Call Jerry W. Jones, MD FACEP FAAEM at 713-931-5423 between 9 am and 5 pm M-F to learn more about how your group or organization can benefit from a private boot camp or seminar presented by Medicus of Houston. Or, send him an email from the Contact Us Page on this website - just click here!

Please Note!

All privately-contracted boot camps and seminars are subject to the availability of instructors and reasonable, safe venues. A private boot camp or seminar may have to be rescheduled or relocated if local events or weather make it too unsafe or impractical for the participants to attend or for the instructor to travel to the locality. We no longer schedule boot camps in Houston during the summer (June 1 - September 15) because of the hurricane season.
